History
Luc was created with a single purpose in life – to be a vessel for the True Wind Rune. One of two clones of the Bishop Hikusaak, leader of Holy Harmonia, he was deemed a failure when it was found that the Rune had fused with his heart, condemning him to be taken over one day. His other twin, Sasarai, was raised as the heir of Hikusaak, in power and wealth.

Luc was left to rot in a cell while the temple prepared another body. Before preparations were complete, however, he was approached by the sorceress Leknaat – to give up and resign himself to his fate, or to choose to live as a human.

Thereafter, Luc served as an apprentice to Leknaat, his True Wind Rune giving him a natural aptitude for wind magic. His secluded upbringing made him cold and aloof, although those who knew him well knew that there was a softer side displayed in actions rather than words.

Generally disinterested in the affairs of the mundane world, Luc was reluctant to participated only grudgingly in the Gate Rune Wars and the Dunan Unification War at the orders of Leknaat, where he served to transcribe the names of the 108 Stars of Destiny (key persons involved in the war). He also lent his magical powers to the wars against Harmonia, particularly where he heard that his much loathed twin was on the opposite side.

After the wars, he returned to Leknaat’s side, until his decision to destroy the True Wind Rune led him to leave his old mentor, on a pronouncement that he hated her.

Luc is being pulled from the end of the series, directly before he dies. The last thing he remembers is having failed in his attempt to gather the five elemental True Runes, being defeated by Hugo, and the city crumbling down around him as he lies dying in Sarah’s arms.

As such, the Luc entering Nuadoria is confused, disoriented, angsty and a little unstable. The fact that he was created as a vessel for the True Wind Rune torments him, but in this new world, without the other runes, he harbours some small hope to break free of that destiny and become a new person. Conflicted and guilt-ridden by the amount of blood he shed in his quest to destroy the True Wind Rune, he knows that his failure has only wasted that sacrifice, and the thought fuels his self-loathing.

-

Luc brings nothing more than the clothes on his back and his True Wind Rune. However, the power of his rune will be completely stripped from him at the point of entering Nuadoria, leaving him little more than the ability to summon a breeze (free fanning, anyone?) but certainly a far cry from his power to wrench the very air from a person’s lungs.

As a result of his (and the rune’s) defeat at the end of Suikoden III, the rune, manifested as a sigil on his skin, fades in and out erratically.
